​Since 2014 The Flight Deck was a collaborative arts space and performance venue in Downtown Oakland that featured a lobby/gallery, black box theater, rehearsal studio, and co-working office for arts organizations and individuals. The Flight Deck hosted performances of all types, gallery shows, rehearsals, classes for youth and adults, and a membership program. The Flight Deck was created and is managed by host company Ragged Wing Ensemble, and is home to several other arts organizations and individual artists.  The Flight Deck has hosted hundreds of performances, rehearsals, classes, meetings and special events and The East Bay Express named The Flight Deck the “Best New Arts Venue” in the East Bay in both 2014 and 2015.

The Flight Deck’s mission was to provide a home for multidisciplinary artists to present work, share resources and practice radical acts of imagination in the heart of downtown Oakland. We believe that the creation, exchange, and experience of art is central to a thriving economy and healthy city, and we envision a local culture in which the arts are deeply rooted in every aspect of public life.  As the landscape of Oakland changes, it is essential to maintain a space where diverse, local voices can be heard and where artists can participate in the positive transformation of our city while keeping us connected to our roots.

We hope that the next phase of the The Flight Deck will be one that continues to maintain a space for local for voices and radical acts of imagination.
