Resident companies make The Flight Deck their home for a year or more to produce, rehearse, work and play while helping co-create the community and serve on a governing council.

Lower Bottom Playaz Resident Company
The Lower Bottom Playaz, Inc, Est. 1999, are Oakland's premiere North American African Theater Troupe. Though the creation, production, and presentation of theater in the tradition of the Black Arts continuum, the troupe dedicates itself to the excavation and critical examination of the conditions of North American inner cites and the lives of inner city inhabitants.The Lower Bottom Playaz, Inc, purposefully use performance as a way of increasing social awareness, and to stimulate, celebrate and enhance understanding of ourselves and others through the shared experience of live theater. The troupe is currently engaged in staging The American Century Cycle by August Wilson in chronological order of the decades presented in The Cycle.
